Of everything on the App Store, StockAlert is the app closest to ours in intent: low stock alerts by email, across locations, without a full inventory system attached. Because the products overlap so much, this comparison comes down to plan limits rather than capabilities.

The location limit is the one to check
StockAlert's free and entry plans cover a single location. Three locations arrive at $14.99 and twenty at $24.99. Stockwell covers every location you have on every plan including the free one.
This matters more than it sounds, because a single location limit does not just reduce coverage, it can hide a stockout entirely. If a SKU has forty units across two shops, thirty eight in one and two in the other, a total based alert never fires while the second shop sits empty. That is the failure mode our multi location guide exists to explain. It applies to any app watching one location out of several.
If you run a single location, none of this applies and you should skip the whole section.
Where StockAlert is genuinely better
One thing. It is real.
Smart Mode. They set reorder points automatically from sales history, from $14.99. We have nothing equivalent and do not calculate thresholds for you. Our threshold guide shows you how to work the number out yourself, which is a worse experience than having it calculated even though it beats guessing.
Which to pick
StockAlert if you need thresholds that vary by variant, or automatic reorder points, with a catalog small enough that 200 variants at $7.99 is not a problem.
Stockwell if you run more than one location, or if you want more SKUs and more recipients per dollar, or if you want a record of every alert that went out.
Both apps have thin review histories, one review against none, so neither of us can point at a crowd. Both have free plans covering 50 products. The cheapest way to settle this is to install both, watch the same ten SKUs for a week then keep whichever one told you what you needed to know.

Does Stockwell support per variant thresholds?
Yes. Every SKU (variant) can hold its own low stock number, so a medium that sells three times faster than an extra large does not have to share a threshold with it. A variant left unset inherits the number on its product. A product left unset inherits the store wide default, so you only set the ones that need their own. StockAlert works the same way, so this is no longer a difference between the two apps.
Do both apps cover multiple locations?
Stockwell covers every location on every plan including the free one. StockAlert covers one location on its free and $7.99 plans, three at $14.99 and twenty at $24.99. If you run more than one location, check that limit before comparing anything else.
How quickly does each app notice a stock change?
StockAlert states that it checks inventory every 15 minutes. Stockwell reacts to the stock change itself rather than polling on a timer. In practice both are fast enough that the difference rarely decides anything, since the useful warning window before a stockout is measured in days.
